Balerno is a residential area of Edinburgh, Scotland situated 8 miles (13 kilometres) south-west of the city centre, next to Currie and afterwards Juniper Green. Administratively, Balerno falls within the territory of the City of Edinburgh Council. Its name derives from the Scottish Gaelic Baile Àirneach, suggesting "townland/town of the hawthorns". The earliest composed documents of Balhernoch or Balernach are found in the late 13th century. The 18th Century brought significant development to the area, with numerous new flax, snuff as well as paper mills emerging around the Water of Leith as well as its tributary, the Bavelaw Burn (proof of flax manufacturing can be seen in Harlaw Woods). The largest of these mills, Balerno Bank Paper Mill located near the centre of the old town closed in the early 1980s. After the First World War house structure started in earnest in the location and ever since household pressures have nearly overloaded commercial and also commercial ones. There was a short loop railway running over what is currently the Water of Leith Walkway.

With age and use any electrical installation in your home will wear. A periodic inspection is therefore carried out to ensure your home electrics are in a satisfactory condition. With a periodic inspection: Ensure your electrical circuits aren’t overloaded, Avoid accidents such as shocks and fire hazards, Discover if there are any defective lines,Highlight any lack of earthing or bonding..
Periodic testing and inspections should be completed: Every 10 years for your home, Every five years for rented accommodation, Every three years for a caravan, Every year for a swimming pool.Electrical inspections are also carried out when buying, selling or renting a property.
If your fuse box keeps tripping or blowing fuses, it may need replacing. Other signs that your fuse box is not working properly include humming, sparking and lack of power. Contact an electrician and ask for a safety report, this will diagnose the problem and lead to a quick fix.
You can find out roughly how old your wiring is by simply looking at it. If the wiring around your fuse box is covered in old-fashioned casing, or is damaged or fraid, it may be over 25 years old and need replacing. This is more common in older properties or houses that have been empty for long periods of time.
