Isleworth

Isleworth is a small town with Saxon origins, set within the London Borough of Hounslow in West London, England. It is found to the east of the town of Hounslow and west of the River Thames and its tributary, the River Crane. The town's original settlement region, beside the River Thames, is pertained to as 'Old Isleworth'. The north-west corner of the town, linking on to Osterley and Lampton, is called 'Spring Grove'. While Isleworth originally had a Thames frontage of about one mile, leaving out that of the Syon estate, a borough border realignment in 1994 decreased this to half a mile so as to increase land in the district of St. Margarets, Twickenham. Isleworth featured a significant number of artisan and white collar residential growth throughout the town, at the expense of various market gardens in the beginning of the 20th century. This period additionally witnessed the building of a number of new factories and offices. Such a fast spread of building transformed the nature of Isleworth's layout, transforming the town from an agrarian economy to an urban one. Thanks to numerous structures avoiding being targeted in the Blitz, Isleworth contains numerous Grade II * listed structures. Most of these originate from the period of considerable mansion-building occurring in the 18th and 19th centuries, due to the attraction of the rural, waterside beauty. There is a public library, a public leisure centre with a swimming pool and gymnasium, four leisure grounds and a town hall for the 20500 inhabitants to go to, in addition to plenty of opportunities to go shopping at nationwide and independent shops.
