Parquet Flooring in Newcastle Upon Tyne

Parquet flooring is a type of wood flooring where small wood blocks or strips are installed alongside one another to generate a distinctive pattern over the whole of the floor. Parquet was historically installed with each individual strip meticulously laid, but modern parquet can be bought in larger tiles or planks to provide the same appearance. Parquet floor is a very fashionable flooring solution which works best in large rooms or hallways where the appealing pattern can be best exhibited. Parquet is available in a wide variety of different patterns, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet may also be manufactured from a wide selection of different woods, but oak is the most common, followed by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet flooring comes in either solid wood or engineered wood varieties, the latter of which feature several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and demands little maintenance. It is, however, inappropriate for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is often installed by using a number of tiles which are fixed to the subfloor with an adhesive. An experienced parquet flooring company can recommend the most appropriate wood types and patterns for your home.
