Parquet Flooring in Selkirkshire

Parquet flooring is a kind of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed together to generate a distinctive design across the whole of the floor. Parquet was traditionally installed with every individual strip meticulously laid, but modern parquet is available in larger tiles or planks to give the same effect. Parquet floor is an extremely elegant flooring option which is most effective in large rooms or hallways where the eye-catching pattern can be best exhibited. Parquet is available in a multitude of different styles, the most popular of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet may also be manufactured from a huge array of different woods, but oak is the most common, accompanied by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet flooring can come in either solid wood or engineered wood styles, the latter of which incorporate several layers of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet flooring is durable and requires little maintenance. It is, however, not fit for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is often installed by using a number of tiles which are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive. A specialist parquet flooring company can recommend the most suitable wood types and patterns for your home.
