Parquet Flooring in Isle Of Rum

Parquet flooring is a variety of wood flooring in which small wood blocks or strips are installed alongside one another to produce a distinctive pattern across the entirety of the floor. Parquet was traditionally installed with every individual strip carefully laid, but modern parquet can be purchased in bigger tiles or planks to give the same effect. Parquet floor is an extremely elegant flooring product which is best suited for large rooms or hallways where the eye-catching pattern can be best displayed. Parquet comes in a wide variety of different styles, the most common of which are herringbone, chevron or checkerboard. Parquet can be manufactured from an enormous selection of different woods, but oak is the most popular, followed by mahogany, maple and cherry. Modern parquet floor may come in either solid wood or engineered wood variations, the latter of which incorporate several sheets of wood with a fibre board core and a top layer of the desired appearance of hardwood. Parquet floor is durable and requires little maintenance. It is, however, not suitable for areas that contain lots of moisture or humidity as the wood will warp or flex under these conditions. Parquet is usually installed by using a series of tiles which are glued to the subfloor with an adhesive. An experienced parquet flooring company can recommend the most suitable wood types and patterns for your home.
